The Seattle Seahawks Victory Over the Bears eked out a narrow 6-3 win against the Chicago Bears in a game dominated by defensive play at Soldier Field on Thursday night. Both teams struggled offensively, but the Seahawks’ defense stepped up to secure the victory.
Defensive Heroics Seal the Win
Leonard Williams led the charge with two of Seattle’s seven sacks, while the defense held the Bears to a meager 179 total yards. The game’s decisive moment came on Chicago’s final offensive play, when Riq Woolen intercepted Caleb Williams, marking Woolen’s first pick since mid-October.
The seven sacks were a season-high for the Seahawks, whose relentless pressure on Bears quarterback Caleb Williams forced Chicago into multiple mistakes. This marked the fourth game this season in which the Bears were held under 180 total yards.
“We just kept fighting and defending every blade of grass,” said Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald. “The defense played exceptionally hard and made the critical plays when it mattered.”
Standout performances included sacks by Uchenna Nwosu, Derick Hall, Jarran Reed, Devon Witherspoon, and Rayshawn Jenkins. Nwosu, in particular, had a significant impact in his first game back from injury, contributing a sack, knocking down passes, and drawing a pivotal holding penalty that nullified a Bears touchdown.
Offensive Struggles Persist
While Seattle’s defense carried the team, the offense had another challenging outing. Geno Smith, battling a knee injury, completed 17 of 23 passes for just 160 yards. The Seahawks managed 265 total yards, with their only points coming from two field goals by Jason Myers.
The offense found early success, with a 71-yard opening drive resulting in a field goal, but they struggled to maintain momentum. DK Metcalf expressed frustration with the lack of production, saying, “I think we’ve just got to run the ball more.”
Smith acknowledged the difficulties but remained optimistic. “We’ve got to improve in the red zone, but the team effort is what matters,” he said.
Jason Myers Shines
Kicker Jason Myers proved crucial, converting field goals of 27 and 50 yards. His 50-yard kick set a new career high for single-season 50-yard field goals, bringing his total to eight. Myers has been reliable all season, missing only four field goals—two from over 60 yards and one blocked attempt.
Looking Ahead
The win keeps the Seahawks’ playoff hopes alive. However, their postseason fate partially hinges on the Los Angeles Rams losing to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday. If that happens, the Seahawks will face the Rams in a winner-takes-all NFC West showdown in the final week of the season.
Macdonald praised the team’s perseverance despite the short week and challenging circumstances. “It’s not easy coming across the country on a short week and playing in an atmosphere like that. Our guys deserve a lot of credit for their poise and effort.”
The Seahawks will need to address their offensive struggles quickly as they prepare for the season’s crucial final stretch.
