Transformative Tacoma Refugee Choir Rally for Peace: Join the Movement!
The Tacoma Refugee Choir Rally for Peace is a transformative event celebrating diversity and inclusivity in Tacoma. Scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at Lincoln High School, this rally promises to inspire peace and unity during a time when asylum seekers, immigrants, refugees, and migrants face increasing uncertainty.
The Tacoma Refugee Choir Rally for Peace is more than a concert—it’s a call to action. It brings together people from all walks of life to celebrate the values of welcoming and support. According to J. Woody Lotts, Executive Director of the Tacoma Refugee Choir (TRC), attendees can expect an engaging lineup of activities, including live mural painting, performances by a Venezuelan band, a Vietnamese dance group, a step dance group, and speeches from community leaders.
“We want this rally to inspire actionable steps toward promoting peace and inclusivity in Tacoma,” said Lotts. “Our choir members played a central role in making this event happen, demonstrating how collaboration builds bridges across communities.”

Orlando Morales, Artistic Director of TRC, emphasizes that the Tacoma Refugee Choir Rally for Peace is open to everyone and is non-partisan. The goal is to promote humanity and inclusivity, ensuring Tacoma remains a welcoming place for all. “We want people to leave with tools and inspiration to make a difference in our community,” said Morales.

New Leadership at TRC
This year marks a leadership transition for the Tacoma Refugee Choir. Founder Erin Guinup has stepped down to pursue new ventures, leaving the choir in the capable hands of Lotts and Morales. Guinup expressed confidence in their leadership, stating, “Woody and Orlando understand the mission deeply and have the skills to take the choir to new heights.”
Lotts, formerly the Development Director at Auburn Symphony Orchestra, brings a wealth of experience and a bilingual background in English and Spanish. Morales, with a rich heritage rooted in the Philippines and Gospel music, brings passion and creativity to TRC’s inclusive mission.
